Continuing my travels. After arriving home from Bruges, we took a flight from Heathrow to Jakarta with Garuda Airlines. At Heathrow we sipped champagne, browsed Tiffany’s, Bvlgari and Mulberry before devouring YoSushi.
We had a smooth flight from Heathrow, we luckily were able to move seats for extra legroom (handy on a 13 hour flight!!). We loved that complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste as well as socks were handed out which was amazing- love long haul flights! I wore double garments for the flight and sandals that could be expanded by undoing the laces for extra comfort! I wore a maxi skirt, a white vest top, my trusty Stella and Dot leopard scarf and a kimono.
We landed late at Jakarta Airport and luckily we booked 2 nights in Jakarta city to get over our jet lag and explore some of Java Island. We stayed in the Mercure Jakarta Sabong Hotel which was lovely. We had a pool to dip our feet in after a long day exploring which was handy. We were in a great location too. There honestly wasn’t much to do in Jakarta, mini Indonesia was a good day out as was wandering around the National Monument (all in one day). We found a great Japanese restaurant at the Pacific hotel where we had our own private chef. We flew to Bali the next morning.
We arrived around midday at Bali’s airport. We spent the first 3 nights in Ubud. We stayed at The Mansion Hotel Baliwood. The resort and spa was so pretty and oozed Balinese features. Ubud was beautiful, but busy… Not as arty as was advertised, but rather tourist haven. We however, travelled around various temples, visited Monkey Forest and the Elephant Sanctuary. We also found the Starbucks with the best view in the world. I highly recommend the Asian Dolce Lattes (similar to Caramel Macchiato but sweeter) and the Matcha Green Tea with Java Chips Fappucino!!
Our first day there, we caught the hotel shuttle into town for late afternoon and early evening for browsing the stores and a meal and cocktails. There are some beautiful boutiques at reasonable prices, and an extensively sized market! The second day we travelled to the Monkey Forest and the Elephant Sanctuary where we had an elephant ride and fed the elephants before stopping at a rice field. In between the Monkey Forest and Elephant Sanctuary we stopped at a cute bar for a juice and a coconut water… The largest I’ve ever seen!! The third day was cloudy so we went exploring the temples then spent the evening at a Balinese Trance Dance which told the story of Rama and Sita.
After 3 night in Ubud, we travelled south to Seminyak, to the beach, the part I’d been looking forward to the most!! Relaxation central!! We arrived at Ocean Resort in the afternoon as we were checking in we were sent to the bar for complimentary drinks while our room was being checked over. If we thought the lobby was incredible, we were in for a treat with our room!! It is the most beautiful and luxurious room I have stayed in to date.
During our time in Seminyak, we mostly relaxed poolside, ate out and drank beers on the beach at the beach bars slouching on bean bags watching the sunset! Perfection!!
We ate at Cocoon Beach club twice- incredible service with amazing food and cocktails.
Azul Beach Club was also fabulous- good food, even better surroundings with a spectacular view!
Our final travel was to the airport from Bali to Jakarta (for an overnight stop) then onto Heathrow… Although there was that stopover in Singapore!! That’s another tale!
